Community Guidelines

Flipn works because strangers can trust each other enough to meet and trade. These guidelines are the minimum that makes that possible. They apply to listings, photos, comments, reviews, profiles and private messages alike.

The short version

  1. Sell only real things you own and are allowed to sell.
  2. Describe them honestly, with your own photos.
  3. Treat every other user like someone you will meet in person.
  4. Keep the conversation on Flipn.
  5. Nothing illegal. Nothing dangerous. Nothing sexual.

Items you may not list

Listing any of these is a breach of the Terms of Service and will be removed. Some also carry criminal liability in India.

Weapons and dangerous goods

  • Firearms, ammunition, air guns, replica or imitation weapons, and any firearm part or accessory.
  • Knives sold as weapons, knuckledusters, tasers, pepper spray and similar.
  • Explosives, fireworks, ammunition components, and precursor chemicals.
  • Hazardous, toxic, radioactive or flammable materials, including unlabelled chemicals and damaged lithium batteries.

Drugs, tobacco and alcohol

  • Narcotics, psychotropic substances and drug paraphernalia.
  • Prescription medicines, prescription-only devices, injectables, and anything requiring a licensed pharmacist.
  • Tobacco in any form, e-cigarettes, vapes and their refills (vaping products are banned in India), and alcohol.
  • Unapproved supplements, steroids, and products making medical claims.

Counterfeit, stolen and restricted goods

  • Counterfeits, replicas, “first copy” or “7A quality” goods, and unauthorised brand merchandise.
  • Stolen property, items with a removed, altered or obscured serial number or IMEI, and iCloud- or Google-locked devices.
  • Pirated media, cracked software, licence keys, streaming or subscription logins, and modchips.
  • Recalled products, and goods that fail Indian safety or BIS standards.
  • Antiquities, protected artefacts and anything whose sale requires a licence you do not hold.

People, animals and body parts

  • Live animals, pets, and any wildlife product — ivory, skins, shells, bones, taxidermy.
  • Human remains, organs, blood, gametes or bodily fluids.
  • Any listing offering a person, or a person’s services, for sale.

Identity, financial and account items

  • Government-issued identity documents — Aadhaar, PAN, passports, voter IDs, driving licences — whether real or forged.
  • SIM cards linked to another person, OTP-forwarding services, and services offering to bypass verification.
  • Online accounts, followers, likes, reviews, or social-media engagement.
  • Currency, cheques, demand drafts, cryptocurrency, lottery tickets, and financial instruments.
  • Loan offers, investment schemes, chit funds, multi-level marketing, “work from home” and job offers requiring a payment.

Adult and surveillance

  • Pornography, sexual services, escort services, and sexually explicit or suggestive images anywhere on Flipn — including profile photos.
  • Adult toys and products intended for sexual use.
  • Hidden cameras, spy devices, GPS trackers marketed for covert use, signal jammers, and interception or hacking tools.

Also not allowed

  • Any item or service that is illegal to sell under Indian law, or that requires a registration or licence the seller does not hold.
  • Listings that are not an item for sale at all — advertisements, donation appeals, event promotions or personal ads.

Listing quality rules

  • Your own photos of the real item.No stock images, no catalogue renders, no screenshots of someone else’s listing, no watermarks or contact overlays.
  • Honest condition and price. Disclose damage, missing parts and repairs. The listed price is the price you will honour.
  • One listing per item, in the right category, with a title that describes the item rather than shouting for attention.
  • Mark it soldwhen it goes. Stale listings waste everyone’s time.
  • No contact details. Phone numbers, WhatsApp links, email addresses, social handles and QR codes are not permitted in titles, descriptions or images. This is checked automatically before a listing publishes. Product model numbers are fine.

How to behave

  • No harassment. No threats, intimidation, stalking, sexual advances, or repeated contact after someone asks you to stop.
  • No hate speech. Nothing attacking or demeaning people on the basis of religion, caste, region, language, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, disability or age.
  • No doxxing.Do not publish anyone’s phone number, address, ID documents or private photos.
  • No impersonation. Do not pose as another person, a business, a brand, or Flipn staff.
  • No scamming. No advance-fee requests, fake payment proof, collect requests presented as payments, QR-code tricks, or non-delivery after payment.
  • No manipulation. Do not trade reviews, rate yourself through a second account, or use extra accounts to inflate a profile or push listings up the feed.
  • No spam. No bulk identical messages, no unrelated promotions in comments, no scraping or automated posting.
  • Honour your commitments. Turning up is part of the deal. Repeated no-shows and time-wasting are treated as abuse.

What happens when a rule is broken

We act on user reports and on automated signals. Where several reports accumulate against the same listing, user, conversation or message, it is escalated automatically for human review. Every enforcement action is recorded.

Typical enforcement outcome by type of breach
What happenedWhat we usually do
A listing in the wrong category, or a minor description problemWe ask you to fix it, or we recategorise it.
Contact details in a listingThe listing is blocked at publish time and never goes live.
Spam, duplicate listings, or ranking manipulationListings removed, and posting limits applied.
A prohibited itemImmediate takedown and a warning. Repeat offences lead to a ban.
Nudity or sexual contentImmediate takedown and a flag on the account. Repeats lead to a ban.
Counterfeits or stolen goodsImmediate takedown, a warning or ban, and referral to authorities where required.
Harassment, hate speech or threatsContent removed and the account restricted or banned depending on severity.
Scam or fraud behaviourImmediate permanent ban, wallet blocked, and evidence preserved.
Evading a ban with a new accountThe new account is banned as soon as it is identified.

Severity, intent and history all matter. A first honest mistake is usually a warning. Fraud, sexual content involving minors, and threats of violence are permanent bans on the first occurrence, and are reported to the appropriate authority.

Appealing a decision

If your listing was removed or your account was restricted and you think we got it wrong:

  1. Open Settings → Help & support and create a ticket under the Account or Safety category.
  2. Say what was removed, when, and why you believe the decision was wrong. Attach evidence — the original bill, an authenticity certificate, or the full chat context.
  3. If you cannot sign in, email the Grievance Officer using the details on the contact page.

Appeals are reviewed by someone other than the original decision-maker where practicable, and answered within 15 days. If a decision is reversed we restore the listing or the account and, where a paid feature was lost as a result, we restore the credits.

Reporting a breach

Use the report option on the listing, profile, conversation, message or comment concerned. Reports are confidential. Step-by-step instructions, and what to do if you have lost money, are in the Safety Centre.
